Encaustic is a very old technique in which beeswax and damar resin are melted together, pigmented, and fused with heat on to a substrate. Some of these paintings have more than 40 layers of encaustic medium applied, each layer fused by a torch. Encaustic paintings will not deteriorate, yellow or darken with time. They do not have to be varnished or protected by glass. These paintings will last a lifetime and more.
